easyDNS rolls out support for dynamic dns
Good news for users who do not have
a static IP address, such as some DSL and cable modem users.
You can now use your domains on easyDNS along with dynamic
DNS client software to automagically update your easyDNS settings
when your IP address changes. (read full

easyDNS comments on proposed new Top Level Domains
We were asked by Bobinteractive.com to comment on the current
ICANN process of adding new TLDs. The full text of their article
is over here
easyDNS enables registrar transfers
easyDNS, a leading provider of reliable and
robust domain name management tools to individuals and service providers,
today announced that it has
implemented registrar transfer capability.
In March 2000, easyDNS became an OpenSRS affiliate, choosing
the new ICANN accredited registrar over Network Solutions. "We
found we could integrate our DNS management system with their
registration system at the software application level", notes
VP Technology Mark Jeftovic. "This means that in addition
to giving our customers a cheaper alternative as far as domain registrations
go, customers can now easily edit their whois records,
or even change their nameservers from the same web interface they use to manage
their DNS and their web and
email forwarding."
Better price and added services may not be the only reasons to switch registrars.
Given the recent increase in domain name hijackings, made possible by the inherent
security flaws in the default authentication
scheme under which the vast majority of domains are held, users may feel more
secure in switching to a registrar that better protects their domain name against
unauthorized modifications. "OpenSRS has a simple
but effective password scheme on all domains", Jeftovic added, "and we've integrated
it into the easyDNS authentication system so it's unified and simple, yet more
secure than what's in place on a lot of domains right now."

easyDNS responds to customer requests for bulk service discounts with new
subscription-based levels of service.
In response to customer requests for bulk discounts
on service for multiple domains, we have introduced subscription levels
of service which are compatible with our DNS-Only, Basic, and Secondary-Only
levels of service.
These new subscription services allow our customers with multiple domains to
dramatically reduce the overall cost of outsourcing their DNS management.
For complete information on our new subscription levels of service, please visit
the
subscription
service information page.
Registry fees are now only $30.00 USD per year and no longer billed
separately on new domains registered through easyDNS.
On March 2, 2000, easyDNS became an affiliate of OpenSRS, an
ICANN accredited registrar. This means that for new domains registered
through easyDNS, we now collect the registry fees. Members will *not*
receive a separate invoice from Network Solutions -- those fees are now
bundled in our prices. In addition, we're able to offer these registry
fees at a lower price than Network Solutions. New domains are now only
USD $30 USD (per year per domain).
As a bonus, if you register your domain through us, you can edit your
WHOIS information directly from your easyDNS Members page!
easyDNS Launches Registration-Only and DNS-Only Levels of Service.
Our "Registration Only" service simply covers (guess what?) just the
registration of new domains through easyDNS. You save on the registry
fees, as mentioned above, and get a free "parking" page on our servers.
This service is perfect if you just want to grab a bunch of domains but
don't have any immediate plans for them yet.
DNS-Only service gives you all the power of our Pro service package,
minus the mail and web-forwarding components. This service level (priced
at USD $24.95 per year per domain) is ideal for members who are running
their own web and mail servers, and only need to set up host and alias
records for their domain (i.e. you have an IP address for your server
or hosting space). Those of you with cable modems or home DSL
connections may want to take a look at this! (Note: since DNS-Only
service does not include mail forwarding, you either need to be running
your own mail server, or using an outside mail service, such as
www.everyone.net or www.chek.com, etc.).
With all these new service offerings, we've made upgrading even
easier. With easyDNS, you can start by registering a new domain at the "Registration Only" level. When you are ready to "unpark" it, upgrade
to the "DNS-Only" or "Basic" level. If your needs change later, you
can then upgrade to the "Pro" level. All you ever have to pay is the
pro-rated difference in the price between the old and new service!
